People watching the 2022 Oscars ceremony were left feeling emotional and in "tears" after realising why Youn Yuh-jung took Troy Kotsur's award from him during his acceptance speech.

The 53-year-old actor won the accolade for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his incredible performance in CODA.

Kotsur, who is the first deaf actor to win an Academy award for acting, was joined on stage by Yuh-jung.
Some viewers were left confused by the South Korean actress taking the statue out of Kotsur's hands, while others took to social media to explain that she did so to allow Kotsur to use sign language to deliver his acceptance speech.
One viewer tweeted: "Her holding it for him so he can sign they're so precious #Oscars".
Another Twitter user said they were left in tears, adding: "This actually got me going man that was so precious."

While one Twitter user admitted: "Took me a few moments to figure out why she took it."
"Youn Yuh-jung holding Troy Kotsur award so he can sign his speech is making me cry," wrote another Twitter user.
Taking to the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to accept his award, Kotsur said: "This is amazing to be here on this journey. I can't believe I'm here."

The star went on to add: "I really want to thank all the wonderful deaf theatre stages where I was allowed and given the opportunity to develop my craft as an actor."
The actor was given a standing ovation in sign language and Yuh-jung returned his award to him once he had finished his speech. The pair then walked off stage together after Kotsur's historic win.
CODA is also nominated for Best Picture and won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
